This house by Rural Studio features an innovative design that is changing the face of housing.
The age old question of housing has always been how to build affordable, yet attractive houses. Generally for something to be really attractive, it is really expensive and vice versa. The students at Rural Studio have been grappling with this problem for years now, but have finally managed to create houses in a tiny community called Serenbe with materials that cost just $14,000. We talk a lot about tiny houses here, but these houses are both inexpensive, and large. According to Russ Smith, associate director of Rural Studio, “We’re in a kind of experimental stage of the program, where we’re really trying to find out the best practice of getting this house out into the public’s hands.”
The students and advisors have spent upwards of a hundred thousand hours perfecting the architecture and trying to find the right balance between design and price. If you look at the photos, they are pretty darn close. The houses are build to be high-performance machines, and come with instructions on how to create every detail so that the house functions properly and efficiently, and at just $20,000 a piece I think they may have just found the perfect recipe.via ]
